根据现场输入信号的不同，可将输入模块分为开关量输入模块和模拟量输入模块。

KONGSBERG RMP201-8数字输入模块 开关量输入模块的作用是把各种开关信号变成CPU所需的TTL标准信号。按输入端电源类型，又可将其为直流输入模块和交流输入模块。输入信号经分压、限流、滤波后再通过光电耦合转换成TTL（5V）标准信号。

模拟量输入模块的作用是把现场连续变化的模拟量信号如温度、流量、电流、电压等转换成CPU能够处理的若干位数字信号。模拟量输入电路一般由运放变换、模转换（A/D）、光电隔离等组成。
